The Master of Social Work degree program is designed to enable students to develop professional practice competence by providing a curriculum that includes social work practice, social policy, knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, research knowledge and experience, and field education.

The Advanced Standing MSW Program

Admission Requirements

  • A BSW from a CSWE-accredited college or university.
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 in upper-division courses on the undergraduate level or a minimum score of 1000 on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • Apply online and pay $30 application fee online.
  • Official transcripts from each college or University attended.  Request transcripts to be sent to: Florida State University Graduate Admissions, P.O. Box 306240, Tallahassee, FL. 32306-2400.
  • A copy of your final Field Evaluation must be sent to:  College of Social Work Admissions, Florida State University, UCC2500, Tallahassee, Fl. 32306-2570

Program Requirements

  • The degree is awarded upon completion of a minimum of 39 semester hours, including 27 hours of on-campus instruction and 12 hours of field instruction.

Florida State University expects graduate students to maintain a 3.0 GPA in course work and a grader of “S” in each field instruction course.

The Traditional MSW Program

Admission Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a field other than Social Work or a BSW from a program which is not accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 in upper-division courses on the undergraduate level or a minimum score of 1000 on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
